What this extension does
Attentive Audio for Netflix uses your device’s webcam to detect whether you
are looking at the screen while watching Netflix. When you look away, it
switches Netflix’s audio to English. When you look back, it switches the
audio back to the language you were originally watching in.
Webcam data
- All face/attention detection runs entirely on your own device, using an
on-device model (MediaPipe Face Landmarker). Your webcam video is never
uploaded, transmitted, recorded, or sent to any server, developer, or
third party.
- No video or image data is stored anywhere, even locally - each frame is
analyzed in memory and immediately discarded.
- The webcam is only active while you have manually started the monitor on
the extension’s monitor page. It is not active in the background at any
other time.
Other data
- The extension stores your settings (target language, timing preferences)
using Chrome’s built-in storage, synced to your own Google account the
same way Chrome syncs bookmarks. This data is not accessible to the
developer.
- The extension does not collect analytics, usage statistics, or any
personal information.
- The extension does not use cookies or tracking of any kind.
Permissions
- Webcam (camera) access: used only for on-device attention detection,
as described above.
- Netflix host access: used to read and change the audio/subtitle
selection in Netflix’s own on-page menu.
- debugger permission: used to send trusted mouse/keyboard input to the
Netflix tab. It facilitates essential features such as simultaneously closing the audio menu
and entering fullscreen after an audio switch. This does not send or receive any data beyond input events; it is
not used for network inspection or data collection.
- storage: used only to store your own settings, as described above.
